The Secret Life of Bees

Oh yes…I love the honeybee…for the work she does pollinating flowers to give us food, the golden honey I adore and the beeswax that goes on much of my work. They are fascinating to watch, their world is so cool, we could learn great lessons on Life from a colony of honeybees…..I also have a shed full of great old pieces of wood that we have collected through the years…And with all the rainy weather I stayed in and did a little painting instead of gardening this weekend…..
I am so hoping the boxes of Queens caught up in the Canada Post Strike were located and saved..made me very angry to hear they were stranded at a postal station with only days to survive……And fingers crossed that all the orphaned hives needing Queens to survive got one.
Karen from the ‘Graphics Fairy’ had posted some wonderful old images of  ‘bumblebees’..I loved the yellow on this girl and the hairy legs…..  I painted it much larger on this old tool trunk lid made from pine ……

antiqued it somewhat and the oil is still drying…may fool around with it more, may redo the writing, tricky with a shaky hand..LOL…just looking at it to see.
Someday maybe I will have an Apiary here..[on of the things on my 'to do' list....]
As I was researching about the Barn Quilt blocks this spring I read that some of the old barns had ‘barn symbols’ on them centuries ago….Love the whole idea, I painted replicas of three popular ones on this antique pine raised panel…this could become a habit in a hurry.
I have another in the works..obsessing over Barn Quilt Blocks
These are hanging in my studio among the whales…….
Have a great Monday !!!
